Barney is a 4 year old male Pug Brindle in color. He is house trained, up to date on Rabies, DHLLP and heartworm testing. He has received his Bordetella vaccine, blood and fecal testing and will have a dental cleaning and be microchipped once he sees the Neurologist. He has a flea allergy. He has right hip dysplasia and appears to have some Neurological issues. The Pug Luv vet has determined he should see Dr. Wolf, the Neurologist for a consultation before the treatment plan is completed. He is a sweet boy and likes to be held. He has a very crusty nose that was treated and his fold has a high amount of debris that will be cleaned and removed. His fold is being cleaned daily to prevent any infection from occurring.
Dr. Wolf determined he needed an MRI and Cat Scan. They revealed he has a genetic defect in his spine that is causing the weakness in his back legs as well as his ability to control his urine. He has been placed on a steroid pill twice a day and will be re-evaluated in one week to determine if the steroid is making any difference. If there is improvement, he will undergo surgery to improve the condition.
Dr. Wolf saw Barney for his follow up visit. There was no improvement seen after one week of steroids. His prognosis is guarded to poor. At this time he will not undergo surgery because the steroid did not show improvement and therefore the surgery would likely not help him. He was seen again on the 21st. He is not a candidate for surgery therefore his condition will deterioate over time. It is not possible to determine a time frame. He is not in any pain and other than the weakness in his hide legs he can run, jump and play like any other dog at this time.
If you can help with his medical costs by making a donation in his name it is appreciated. His vet bill to this point is in excess of $3,000. We will do whatever is recommended by our Veterinarians to resolve his issues.
