Dexter was surrendered to a shelter in mid Michigan because they were expecting a baby and did not have time for him. He was given to Pug Luv because he does not show well in a cage at the shelter. He is 3 years old, house broken but as he was just neutered. He has been brought up to date on Rabies, Distemper, Bordetella, heart worm, fecal and blood testing and microchipped. When he is approached while in his crate he is very territorial of the crate area. Once let out of the crate he becomes a different boy. He likes to sit on your lap but as of yet has not given kisses. He is good with other dogs and cats as well as children. Dexter was taken to Animal ER Center on Sunday May 17th because he was vomiting and lethargic. He was diagnosed with Aspiration Pneumonia. He was on 2 antibiotics for 30 days and his radiographs were repeated. The appointment with the MSU doctor revealed there is no need for a Liver Shunt. He had another blood test which revealed he still has elevated levels that appeared in his previous blood tests. He had a Liver biopsy to determine the next treatment that is necessary.
Dexter has been released by the Pug Luv vet and is now available for adoption. He will require annual Liver monitoring through a blood chemistry testing. He will also need a Liver friendly anesthetic and oral medications when needed in the future. Anyone who has attended a Meet and Greet and interacted with Dexter in the past can make the comittment to adopt him at this time by e-mailing pugluv@michiganpugrescue.com. If there are multiple e-mails received, preference will be given to a family with children.
